Ildar Abdrazakov II International Music Festival

Founder of Young Artist Support, the world famous opera singer, Ildar Abdrazakov presented the second festival season to residents of four Russian cities and brought together about five thousand spectators. Ildar Abdrazakov International Music Festival was held from March 12 to March 24 in Moscow, Ufa, Almetyevsk, and Kazan.

“The concept of my project is very simple — it is the interaction between young people and singers performing today on the main world’s stages. When an aspiring musician performs together with a more experienced and renowned master, this is an excellent occasion for the neophyte to learn something new. And Maestro, in turn, supports the performer with a word of encouragement and advice. Therefore, such a contact is so important both for young and famous singers. I would like to express my appreciation to our friends and soul mates from the ‘Class of Maestro’ project, which is implemented by the ‘Art, Science and Sport’ Foundation with the aim of developing music education in Russia, for that support and help they rendered during the workshops held this year,” told Ildar Abdrazakov, the people’s artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Republic of Tatarstan and winner of two Grammy awards.

Shortly before the performances in Ufa and Moscow, on March 12 and March 17, the artistic director of the project Ildar Abdrazakov and artistic coordinator of the youth program of the Monte-Carlo opera Kira Parfeevets conducted workshops for young vocalists who had passed the preliminary selection. The Festival Directorate received about 500 applications from talented young people from all over Russia. 20 of them were selected to participate in the workshops and the other vocalists were admitted as spectators.

Based on the results of the workshops, the performers who had successfully approved themselves were invited to participate in the Festival’s performance program. In Ufa, soprano Oksana Sekerina performed on the same stage with famous opera maitres, and in Moscow, the fortune smiled upon Korean bass-baritone Bayong Min Gil and Nadezhda Meyer, a soprano from Moscow. Their performance was the high point of the Festival that was awarded a standy audience ovation.

On March 19, a gala concert with the participation of the winner of the “Best World Bass” award Ildar Abdrazakov and one of the most recognized modern bel canto tenors, the nominee for the Grammy award Lawrence Brownle (USA) took place on the stage of the Moscow Zaryadye Music Hall. The concert was the culmination of Ildar Abdrazakov II International Music Festival arranged by Foundation Young Artist Support.

The Festival continued with a series of solo performances by Ildar Abdrazakov “Verdi Gala” held on March 23 in Kazan and on March 24 in Almetyevsk. At both concerts, the maitre was accompanied on the stage by the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan and Alexander Sladkovskiy at the conductor’s stand.

The educational project grants young singers not only an opportunity for creative self-fulfilment and participation in workshops, but also a priceless experience of performing at the largest concert venues together with world stars. Thus, Ildar Abdrazakov II International Music Festival becomes an important centre of support for young performers in Russia and an important platform for cultural exchange between world capitals of music.

“This year we were pleased to become part of the Ildar Abdrazakov’s annual international music festival, which, like the ‘Class of Maestro’ project, implements a number of cultural initiatives and supports young talents. We hope that the workshops conducted by the world top line performers will provide rich opportunities to the young singers for their creative realization, and they will gain invaluable experience of performing at major concert venues,” said Jurate Yushkeviciute, manager of the “Class of Maestro” project implemented by the Alisher Usmanov’s “Art, Science and Sport” foundation.

As a response event in the framework of the cooperation of the two foundations, Ildar Abdrazakov’s workshop will be held in June this year at the Summer Art School “Class of Maestro” in Stariy Oskol.
