“Happy Birthday, Maestro!”

From February 9 to February 13, competitive auditions of the participants of the I International Clarinet Contest were held in Moscow, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, professor I. P. Mozgovenko.


The final concert and the solemn ceremony of awarding of the contest winners as part of the “Class of Maestro” project took place on February 13, 2019, on the birthday of Ivan Mozgovenko, in the Great Hall of the Chaikovskiy’s Moscow State Conservatory. The concert was held with the support of the “Art, Science and Sports” Foundation.

Among the invited were the soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic Yekaterina Mechetina, the soloist of the National Paris Opera Philip Cooper, the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Victor Kulik, the professor of the Moscow Conservatory, People’s Artist of the Russian Soviet Federated Socialistic Republic Mikhail Voskresenskiy, Yuriy Favorin, Russian State Academic Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Alexey Utkin, “The Moscow Trio”, the ensemble of soloists of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, and Artyom Vargaftik as the presenter.

Ivan Mozgovenko is a Russian clarinetist and teacher, a professor at the Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music, a People’s Artist of the Russian Federation. Since 1951, during all his creative career, Ivan Mozgovenko has collaborated with many outstanding musicians such as Sergey Prokofyev, Dmitriy Shostakovich, Mstislav Rostropovich, Svyatoslav Richter, Evgeniy Svetlanov, Borodin’s State String Quartet. Nineteen of his students have the title of professor and associate professor, three students have been awarded the title of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation. Among the students of Ivan Mozgovenko are the leading soloists of Russian and European orchestras.

Ivan Mozgovenko participated in the Great Patriotic War. He took part in liberation of Berlin and Prague in the Ural Volunteer Tank Corps and was awarded orders and medals.

Currently, Ivan Mozgovenko continues to teach at the Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music and at the Gnesins’ Moscow Secondary Special Music School (he is the founder of the clarinet class at this educational institution).
