The Art, Science and Sport Foundation became a partner of the conference on Experience and Role of Non-Profit Organizations in Solving Problems of Social Orphanhood

From June 4 to 5, 2018, the all-Russian conference on Experience and Role of Non-Profit Organizations in Solving Problems of Social Orphanhood was held at the Blagosfera Centre. The conference was initiated by the Presidential Grants Foundation in partnership with the Alisher Usmanov’s Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation and the Timchenko Foundation.

The aim of the conference is to facilitate the sharing of experiences between experts from the non-profit sector and development of the professional society of organizations working in the field of social partnership. Participants shared good practices, viewed, with the assistance of experts, their work in the context of state policy regarding orphans, perception of orphanhood in modern society, and created an interactive theatrical performance, which allowed them to see their work through others’ eyes.

Karina Fatullaeva, Head of the Project “To my future” of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, moderated the session on Institutions for Orphans: Good Practices of Social Partnership for the Benefit of Children. The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation of Alisher Usmanov created the project “To my future” in 2013 for social adaptation and vocational guidance of teenagers in a difficult life situation by holding master classes, webinars, creative competitions and quests, meetings with mentors and off-site events. The project prepares teenagers for independent living and choosing the career path.

Moreover, it was important for the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, as a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by the Russian entrepreneur and philanthropist Alisher Usmanov, to become a partner of such socially significant event.

Within the moderated session, specialists presented cases of efficient interaction between non-profit organizations and public organizations of different departmental affiliation for prevention of social orphanhood, the results of development of a system of comprehensive support for orphans and children left without parental care.

The issues related to preparation of children from orphanages and family support centres for independent living, including assisting children in mastering educational programs, vocational guidance, building career strategies, developing legal literacy; assistance in solving issues of family arrangements for orphans and children left without parental care; implementation of programs aimed at the social rehabilitation of children temporarily placed in social institutions, preservation and/or restoration of family ties, were touched upon as well.

Particular attention was paid to the activities of non-profit organizations in activation of the local community and integration of social resources in order to support children growing up in residential care, including mentoring development. As Karina Fatullaeva, Head of the Project “To my future”, commented, “It is mentoring that is an efficient method of supporting children and helping them to choose their future occupations. Moreover, mentoring is a priority for the project of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation of Alisher Usmanov. It is necessary to create the right social context for children to communicate freely and develop their personal potential.”
