“Class from a Maestro” Partners with 10th Belgorod International Guitar Competition

27 November 2015

The 10th Belgorod International Competition for Classical Guitar Performers and Guitar Ensembles was held as part of the 16th Guitar Music Festival “Guitar in the 21st Century” in Belgorod from 23 to 26 November 2015.

Recognised geniuses in classical guitar Professor Nikolay Komolyatov, an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, and Rovshan Mamedkuliyev, one of the brightest young talents in guitar came to Belgorod on the invitation of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation. Some of Russia’s leading performers held master classes at S.A Degtyarev College of Music in Belgorod for students and teachers of music schools from Moscow, Kursk, Krasnodar, Orel, Nevinnomyssk, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Electrostal, in short, from all over the country. Those events took place in framework of the “Class from a Maestro” project.

The classes were held in the most productive format — young talents showed their skills playing their instrument and were judged by maîtres and received assessments of their skills, constructive criticism and personalized advice from the professionals. Their teachers also tried to take away the most valuable information from those master classes — a unique look at the learning process, some new ideas and several effective ways to improve guitar playing techniques. Nikolay Komolyatov, an acknowledged master and experienced teacher, who headed the jury at the competition used specific examples from the performances of the contestants for “post-flight debriefing” at his classes.

“I am very pleased that there are charities like the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation. The Class from a Maestro project is aimed at developing talented children from provinces who are not able to go to the capital to study. It isn’t just useful but also interesting to them — the full hall has gathered and is asking a lot of questions. This is just great!” said Rovshan Mamedkuliyev.

On November 25, Rovshan Shahbazovich gave a solo recital at Belgorod Music College — a gift to all music lovers. The maestro performed variations on the theme of F. Sor (M. Llobet), “In the Gardens of Generalife” (J. Rodrigo), “The Five Bagatelles” (William Walton), and “The Carnival of Venice” (F. Tarrega).

Grant holders of the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation, together with participants from the Class from a Maestro project gave concerts in Switzerland. This could not have happened without the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.
