The best participants in the "A Future with Confidence" project awarded by the Foundation with three-day trip to St. Petersburg and other valuable prizes

02 July 2014

In June 19-22, 2014 twenty of the most active participants of the interactive project on distance learning and social adaptation, “A Future with Confidence”, from children’s homes and residential schools in the Orel, Vologda, Kaluga and Lipetsk regions visited St. Petersburg.

According to the results of the academic year (2013-2014), the best performance was shown by the pupils of the following children’s social care institutions: Naryshkino Residential School, Vologda Children’s Home No. 1&2, Lyudinovo Residential School, Gryazi Town Residential School, Lipetsk Residential School for Blind and Visually Impaired Children and SOS Youth House of the Orel region.

An extensive programme was awaiting the children: a packed city tour with a visit to the Hermitage Museum, various temples and cathedrals, the Petropavlovskaya Fortress and other attractions; a visit to the Mariinsky Theatre to attend a performance of the ballet “Midsummer Night’s Dream”; watching a lights and fireworks show on the Neva River, as well as participating in a fabulous annual event — the high school graduates celebration, “Scarlet Sails”, and, finally, a trip to the famous Peterhof.

On the evening of June 21, a solemn award ceremony took place. The winners of the “A Future with Confidence” project who came in first and second place, received personal laptops and electronic tablets from the Foundation.

A Teacher at Lyudinovo Residential School, Irina Antokhina, who accompanied her pupils on this trip, said: “It is difficult to find words to describe this trip: perfect, enchanting... I asked the children what they liked best of all and they replied: ‘Everything! From the train trip to the gala dinner on the boat’. It was a very warm welcome, it was meticulously organized, we made a lot of new friends, and were given generous gifts. We thank the Foundation very much. Our children have not taken any of these activities for granted. It was a holiday, a miracle, a real pleasure. Three thrilling and educative days!”

The “A Future with Confidence” project was launched by the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation in December 2013, and by the beginning of 2014 it covered 10 social care institutions in five regions of Russia.

The purpose of the project is to provide pupils of children’s homes and residential foster schools, special education schools, as well as children with disabilities, who are home-schooled, the chance to acquire the skills necessary for a professional career and personal fulfilment. Classes are held in the form of webinars: online lectures and master classes.
