"Check-in Gornyatsky" – offline meeting of "A Future with Confidence" project participants

From 21 to 28 March, 2015, during the spring break, the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation organised an offline meeting of the participants of the “A Future with Confidence” project in Gornyatsky sanatorium, Kursk region.

“A Future with Confidence” was created by the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation in 2013 with the purpose of helping under privileged teenagers who find themselves in difficulty adapt to society. The main objective of the project is to give children from orphanages and residential schools, students of special education schools, as well as disabled children who study at home, the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills necessary for confident entry into adulthood. The project works in two directions: master classes and lectures in the form of online webinars at www.tomyfuture.ru and offline meetings, where children get to know their teachers and mentors, specialists in various fields.

“Check-in Gornyatsky” is the second face-to-face meeting under the project. The first one was held between 13 and 26 November, 2014, in the Federal Children’s Center “Smena” (city of Anapa) and was dedicated to information technology, which was the spotlight in the programme in 2014. The purpose of this spring meeting was to solidify in memory the material learned in webinars in 2015: once again lecturers and children discussed their creativity and healthy lifestyle habits.

Gornyatsky sanatorium welcomed children’s homes and residential schools from Vologda, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Moscow and Orel regions. In total, the event was attended by 79 children from 12 institutions.

The participants of “Check-in Gornyatsky” had a busy schedule. In particular, meetings with notable personalities: cooking classes with Marianna Orlinkova  deputy editor of Gastronom magazine, journalist and author of cookbooks; outstanding art lectures by Dmitry Minchenok, a playwright, winner of the theatre and film awards; talks about sports professions and a football game with the famous sports journalist and football commentator and host of “Radio Sport” Nobel Arustamian.

In addition to meeting their lecturers, the children were involved in other interesting activities. Each day, the participants became acquainted with world cinema masterpieces and discussed them in the form of a debate: the emotions caused by the movies, what ideas they raised and what they taught them.

On 26 and 27 March, a series of children’s flash mobs and entertaining and educational events were organized by the Kursk Atmosphere Centre, which put on many exciting events, namely, “Crazy professor Nicolas’ Science Show” and other creative team building games.

The Media partner of the event was the project “Life without Walls” by international media agency “Russia Today”.
