In addition, A.B. Usmanov and V. O. Potanin, also an alumnus of MGIMO, created a start-up capital for the University Development Fund, trying to engage other alumni in cooperation with the endowment.
Thanks to the A.B. Usmanov’s support, the MGIMO internationalization project is implemented, MGIMO professors take part in scientific events abroad, students undergo internships at leading world universities and international organizations, instructors of language departments improve their qualifications, and international accreditation of programs is carried out.
Founder of the Art, Science and Sport Foundation, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MGIMO and Member of the Board of Trustees of the MGIMO Development Fund, Alisher Burkhanovich Usmanov commented on his decision to make a contribution of $ 1 mln for education internationalization, "I consider the contribution to the MGIMO Endowment Fund as an investment in enhancing the global competitiveness of the Russian education. Today, the University is one of the recognized leaders of Russian higher education, which trains highly qualified personnel, the political and business elite of Russia. It is the strongest educational centre known far beyond Russia and the CIS. The endowment is an opportunity for the University to move to greater financial sustainability and independently determine the long-term strategy for its development.
