The Russian National Festival of Science in Kursk

10 October 2013

On October 4-6, 2013 Kursk hosted the 3rd Russian National Festival of Science with support from the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation. The festival’s Central Regional Platform was set up at South-West State University.

The event was organised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Moscow State University, South-West State University, and the Kursk Region Committee of Education and Science. The Festival participants came from 18 different regions of Russia, as well as from two CIS countries — Belarus and Ukraine.

With the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, this year the Science Festival in Kursk featured such interesting events as the Festival of Contemporary Scientific Cinema, the Philosophical Forum with the participation of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ leading academics, lectures by foreign scientists, an exhibition called “Through the Looking Glass” and a Canopy Show. The “Through the Looking Glass” exhibition demonstrated examples of different laws of physics that one can not only see but also literally touch. Named one of the best interactive exhibitions in the world, its visitors were able to make a magnet float in air, create giant soap bubbles, produce their own electric power using a bicycle-generator, and much more. The 360-degree projection cinema set up in a circular hall was a pleasant surprise for Kursk residents: spectacular special effects and mesmerizing computer graphics illustrated the origins and evolution of the Universe, from the Big Bang to the present day.

The Science Festival is a significant cultural and educational event that showcases the achievements of the modern science using an artistic means of expression, in the form of informative shows, workshops, interactive activities, and lectures.

The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation is one of the permanent sponsors and partners of the Festival of Science.
