The State Mariinsky Academic Theatre was touring in Tashkent

On 13 and 14 of April 2017, the Mariinsky Theatre had a tour in Tashkent that was organized with the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.


The Mariinsky Theatre troupe, headed by Valery Gergiev, performed in the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the first time.

On 13 of April, the Palace of International Forums “Uzbekistan” hosted the concert of the symphonic orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre, which performed the following music masterpieces: Prelude to the “Afternoon of a Faun” by Claude Debussy, ballet “The Firebird Suite” by Igor Stravinsky, “The Symphony no 5” of Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Behzod Abduraimov, a famous and talented piano player of Uzbekistan also performed at this concert in the Palace of International Forums. He played one of the most famous concerts of Sergey Prokofiev — the Piano Concerto No. 3.

Valery Gergiev, the maestro, commented: “We had many joint performances with Behzod all over the world. He frequently performed in Saint Petersburg, and accompanied not only by the orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre. Many Russian orchestras know him and enjoy the joint performances with him. I believe this is one of the best musician in the world, and the people of the Republic should be proud of his achievements”.

The concert had lasted for two hours, at the end Valery Gergiev, the greatest conductor of modern times, received much applause, and was shout for an encore many times.

On 14 of April, the troupe of the Mariinsky Theatre performed the following ballet dances in the State Academic Bolshoi Theater named after Alisher Navoi: “Carmen-Suite” of Bizet-Shchedrin, choreographic scenes from ballets “Don Quixote”, “Swan Lake”, “Anna Karenina”, “War and Piece”. Diana Vishneva, a prime ballet dancer of the Mariinsky Theatre and People’s artist of Russia, performed in this concert.

During the press conference devoted to touring of the Mariinsky Theatre in Uzbekistan, Valery Gergiev said: “I believe that relations and cultural exchange, in particular between our countries, between Tashkent and Saint Petersburg, will be strengthening. This tour is a good opportunity to discuss future contacts, interesting ideas that can be brought to life”.

The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation is a continuous partner of the Mariinsky Theatre. As part of this support, the Foundation takes part in arranging festivals, concerts and other events of the Theater.
