Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance Tours Belgorod and Kursk Regions

29 February 2016

For the second consecutive year the communities of Belgorod and Kursk regions were given the opportunity to enjoy performances by the legendary Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance, organised with the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.

Igor Moiseyev Ballet concerts were held in the city of Gubkin, in the Belgorod region on 18 and 19 February 2016. The ensemble toured Stary Oskol 20 and 21 February. They then moved onto the city of Zheleznogorsk, in the Kursk region on 23 and 24 February.

Igor Moiseyev Ballet troupe visited the Belgorod and Kursk regions presenting their unique tour “Classical programme of Igor Moiseyev” last year. In 2016, viewers had the chance to see the “Dances of the World” programme, which included Polish, Korean, Argentinian and Bulgarian folk dances. The concert was opened with a Russian Summer dance, which has become the ensemble’s signature piece. The dancers also performed comic dances, including the Nanain game “Two boys in a fight” which enjoyed an ecstatic reception by audiences.

The second act of the concert’s programme presented a single-act ballet “Night on Bald Mountain” based on a novel by 19th Century novelist, Nikolai Gogol, with music by Modest Mussorgsky and libretto by Igor Moiseyev.

“Night on Bald Mountain” is one of the 300 works staged by Igor Moiseyev. The genius spectacle encompasses all kinds of choreographic art, from classic dance to rock and roll and acrobatic moves", said Elena Shcherbakova, artistic director of Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance, describing the programme. The ballet is full of acting parts that demand dancers possess expert acting skills as well as the unique Moiseyev dance traditions which also engage the dancers acting skills.

After the famous troupe received a very warm reception in 2015, the Belgorod and Kursk regions’ communities are anxiously awaiting the ensemble’s next arrival.

Local media held prize giveaways with questions on the history and work of Igor Moiseyev Ballet. The winners were awarded tickets to upcoming performances.

Elena Shcherbakova, artistic director of Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance, admitted on stage that performing for their fellow countrymen was the greatest pleasure for the dancers.

Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble’s performances in the Belgorod and Kursk regions in 2016 were a continuation of long-term cooperation of Igor Moiseyev Ballet and the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation that regularly supports the ensemble’s key events.
