“Podsnezhnik” Classical Dance Ensemble from Novotroitsk wins Spanish Festival’s Grand Prix

23 May 2014

The “Podsnezhnik” classical dance ensemble based in Novotroitsk has brought home the Grand Prix from the Festival de Musica y Danza International Competition held from April 26 to May 3, 2014 in the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona.

Having performed ten different acts (variations from different ballets) within three contest entries “Podsnezhnik” managed to win the Grand Prix in the Classical Ballet category which is one of the most complex types of dance.

In addition to the overall victory, the group’s solo dancers took the top places in the “Children up to 10 years” and “Solo” categories. Special and individual awards for excellent technique and performance style were given for the “Pas de Quatre” dance performance, while the group’s leader, Tatiana Shcherbakova, received a special jury prize “For a solicitous attitude to classical ballet traditions.”

"Although this is not our team’s first success — last year, for example, we won the Grand Prix at the Danube Rainbow competition — it is impossible to get used to the joy that any victory brings. Equally, it would be impossible for us to participate in these activities without the continuous support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, said Tatiana Shcherbakova.

With the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation the dance ensemble participated in the 2013 Danube Rainbow Festival, which was held from April 26 to May 7, 2013 in the largest cities in Hungary, Slovakia and Austria. The Charity Foundation also helped the ensemble purchase professional costumes in 2014.
