The legendary Igor Moiseyev Ballet performs in Orsk

02 February 2015

With the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation the Igor Moiseyev State Academic Ensemble of Popular Dance, known worldwide as the Igor Moiseyev Ballet, made its first appearance in front of audiences in the East Orenburg region.

Concerts of the legendary Igor Moiseyev Ballet took place in Orsk State A.S. Pushkin Drama Theatre on 27, 28 and 29 January 2015.

The ensemble brought “Dances of the world” programme to Orsk. It included: Russian Summer dance, Kalmyk dance, a suite of Moldovan dances Choir, Chiokyrlie, Joc, Dance of Bessarabian Gypsies, Argentine dance “Gaucho”, etc.

The world’s first professional folk dance ensemble was created by the unique choreographer, Igor Aleksandrovich Moiseyev in 1937. He staged about 300 works: the famous Guerrillas, Gopak, Bulba, Yablochko, Aragon Jota and others which became a part of gold treasure trove of world classics and circulated on tours around almost the entire globe.

Igor Moiseyev used to say: “My life is easier told as a travel guide, than as a narrative biography. Both with my group and on my own, I’ve visited over 50 countries around the world, many of them — more than a dozen times. Every year we would spend about 8 months touring, and most of it abroad. We were one of the first to achieve such resounding success.” The Ensemble visited 65 countries on tour; Italy, USA, Hungary and France 10-15 times.

Igor Moiseyev passed away in 2007, two months before he would have turned 102, but his life’s work lives on through his disciples. Masterpieces created by this wizard still enthral audiences around the world. It’s difficult to get a hold of tickets because each concert is a full house. The Ensemble receives prestigious international awards (on its 75th anniversary it was awarded the UNESCO Five Continents Medal) and tours a lot.

The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation is a permanent partner of the Ensemble and regularly sponsors significant events of the history of the Ensemble.

Maria Krasnikova, Director of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, said: “It was our long-time dream to introduce the Igor Moiseyev Ballet to the East Orenburg region. But before its renovation, the Orsk drama theatre stage was not ready for an event of this level. However, on September 4, 2014, once the theatre was formally opened having been reconstructed, it became clear that a performance would have to be held!”

The reconstruction of the Orsk A.S. Pushkin Drama Theatre, currently the only major theatre and concert venue in the East Orenburg region, was also held under the auspices of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.
