The premiere of "Dedicated to Yalta” at Moscow “Sovremennik” theatre

22 October 2014

On October 15th, 2014 the Moscow Sovremennik theatre premiered the stage play, “Dedicated to Yalta”, created with support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.

The show is based on Joseph Brodsky’s poem of the same name and Alfred Schnittke’s Sonata No.1 for cello and piano. Music, in this case, is not merely for illustration, which is common in dramatic performances, but a full partner of poetry. It is live music played by well-known musicians: cellist Boris Andrianov and pianists Katia Skanavi and Andrei Gugnin. The following actors are “responsible” for spoken language: Arthur Smoljaninov, Natalia Ushakova, Evgeniya Brick.

The idea of creating the play, in which Brodsky’s text and Schnittke’s music are united by a common detective story belongs to Boris Andrianov and Arthur Smolyaninov.

In 2014, the Sovremennik audience saw another premiere — “Cinderella”, a fairy tale for children and adults. That performance was also prepared with support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, the General Partner of the theatre.
