Release of two new publications: “Mikhail Lermontov. Life and Works” and “The Tarkhany Encyclopaedia”

On 29 January, 2014, the Lermontov Library hosted the presentation of the album Mikhail Lermontov. Life and Works and the book, The Tarkhany Encyclopaedia.

The album, Mikhail Lermontov. Life and Works, is devoted to making sense of the creative heritage of Mikhail Lermontov in the modern era. This album provides new interpretations to some of the well-known biographical facts, it explains the role played by the Tarkhany estate in the life of the poet, as well as his Moscow, St. Petersburg and Caucasus periods. The album was prepared using materials from the collections of the Mikhail Lermontov Tarkhany Memorial Estate.

The Tarkhany Encyclopaedia is a topography of Tarkhany village and its surroundings. It contains information about the flora and fauna, the natural environment and eco-cultural heritage of the area. The book includes a large number of articles about personalities and events pertaining to this location, from the first recorded mention of the village, up to the present day. Naturally, it focuses largely on the life of Mikhail Lermontov in Tarkhany. The Encyclopaedia also includes special articles about the memorial sites, the most important museum exhibitions and displays, as well as the activities of the literary museum.

Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation supports Mariinsky Theatre projects

The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation is a partner of the Mariinsky Theatre and supports many of its projects. Among them was the recent Mstislav Rostropovich Music Festival, which took place in Samara on 4-5 December 2013, as well as a concert by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra directed by Valery Gergiev at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, on 25 December 2013.
