“Renzo Arbore and the Italian Orchestra” Concert held at Kremlin Palace

25 June 2015

On June 24, 2015, a concert of Renzo Arbore’s legendary L’Orchestra Italiana was held at the National Kremlin Palace to promote the Expo 2015 Universal Exhibition in Milan. The concert was organised by the Embassy of Italy in Moscow with the financial backing of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.

The Expo 2015 Universal Exhibition opened in Milan on 1 May, 2015. It is the most important international event of the year devoted to the theme “Feeding the Planet. Energy for life”. The exhibition will run until October 31 and about 20 million people from all over the world are expected to visit. More than 140 participating countries will meet to answer the key question facing humankind: how to provide the world population with enough healthy and safe food without sacrificing our Planet and its delicate equilibrium.

Renzo Arbore is considered one of the most eclectic and charismatic representatives of show business, music, radio and television in Italy. He is an actor, television presenter and director, showman, filmmaker, musician, composer, journalist, musical critic, and inventor of new genres who has brought many talents to the world. He is also an ambassador of Expo 2015 in Milan.

Alongside work in the areas of radio, television, music and cinema, Arbore devoted the last 15 years of his career to the study and preservation of classical Neapolitan song both in Italy and abroad. In 1991, he founded his Italian Orchestra, an original ensemble of 15 professional musicians (guitars, mandolins, an accordion, a piano, drums, timbrels and vocal).

Mr. Arbore has performed on the world’s biggest stages with “The Italian Orchestra”, earning the title of “ambassador” of Italian music. His concert in Red Square in Moscow, in 1996, was particularly memorable to spectators.

Now, after nearly 20 years, Renzo Arbore and the Italian Orchestra have returned to the capital of Russia. At this concert the Russian audience embarked on a journey to the roots of Italy, to hear the songs and melodies of Naples.
