Three Sisters of St. Petersburg Maly Drama Theatre seen by Stary Oskol and Zheleznogorsk

On June 13 and 15, 2015 with the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation the Academic Maly Drama Theatre — Theatre of Europe directed by Lev Dodin performed Three Sisters in cities in the regions of Belgorod and Kursk. Their performance has received the Golden Soffit Theatre Award and the K.S. Stanislavski Award in the „Event of the Season” category (2010/2011).

The residents of Stary Oskol and Zheleznogorsk saw legendary director, Lev Dodin’s fifth staging of a theatrical work by Anton Chekhov.The classic life story of three sisters with their dreams and hopes, love and suffering in a new stage direction of the theatre by far is different from the Chekhov’s usual plays. Austere stage design, coupled with a strict stage setup accompanies a plot which reflects the fate of the twentieth century, its human dramas and tragedies, and global catastrophe.

There are no special effects in this play. In the foreground is the author’s text and the live performance of the following actors: Natalia Akimova, Elizabeth Boyarskaya, Alexander Bykov, Sergei Vlasov, Alexander Zavyalov, Ekaterina Kleopina, Arthur Kozin, Sergei Kozyrev, Sergei Kuryshev, Pyotr Semak, Stanislav Nikolsky, Polina Prikhodko, Ekaterina Tarasova and Irina Tychininа.

On June 14, 2015 the MDT visited the city of Gubkin in the region of Belgorod, where it performed the play Uncle Vanya.

The current tour is a continuation of a programme run by the St. Petersburg Maly Drama Theatre — Theatre of Europe designed to restore touring ties between the cities of the Russia. The project was launched eight years ago and to the present day is entirely supported by the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.

On June 14, 2015 the Academic Maly Drama Theatre — Theatre of Europe directed by Lev Dodin with the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation performed Uncle Vanya in Gubkin, in the region of Belgorod. Their performance of the play has already received the Golden Sofit Theatre Award, Golden Mask National Theatre Award (Best Director — L. Dodin, Best Actor — S. Kuryshev) and the Association of Italian Theatre Critics’ Award.

14th Moscow Easter Festival

The 14th Moscow Easter Festival, supported by the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation, was held between April 12th and May 9th. The Festival was extensive in both its geographic scope and the number of excellent musical events. It commemorated two crucial dates in the history of the world and musical culture: the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II and the 175th birthday of the great Russian composer, Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
