01 July 2015

The Academic Maly Drama Theatre — Theatre of Europe, under direction of Lev Dodin, performed Uncle Vanya to audiences in the region of Orenburg. The play has been awarded the Golden Soffit Theatre Award, Golden Mask National Theatre Award (Best Director — L. Dodin, Best Actor — S. Kuryshev) and the Association of Italian Theatre Critics’ Award.

The play was shown on the stage of the Orsk State A.S. Pushkin Drama Theatre on June 27 and at the “Metallurg” Culture Centre in Novotroitsk on June 28, 2015.

Stage actors Natalia Akimova, Vera Bykova, Igor Ivanov, Sergey Kuryshev, Alexander Koshkarev, Ksenia Rappoport, Oleg Ryazantsev, Peter Semack and Ekaterina Tarasova perform in the play.

The current tour is a continuation of a programme by the St. Petersburg Maly Drama Theatre — Theatre of Europe designed to restore touring ties between the cities of Russia. The project was launched eight years ago and to the present day is entirely supported by the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.

“This year the programme went to five cities. The Theatre had already visited the Belgorod and Kursk regions. And now it’s here in the Orenburg region. This is a long-expected meeting for Novotroitsk: the town first got to know the Theatre of Europe in 2009, when locals had the chance to see the play, Brothers and Sisters. In 2011 the Theatre brought another play to Novotroitsk, The Snow Queen. The MDT did not just visit Novotroitsk this year. For the first time the Theatre was received at the Orsk State A.S. Pushkin Drama Theatre, newly renovated also with the help of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation. I am sure these performances have become unforgettable events in the cultural life of each of these cities”, said Maria Krasnikova, director of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.
