#VSENASPORT Sports Festival Held in Zheleznogorsk

Zheleznogorsk, Kursk region, hosted the largest marathon in the city’s history on 4 September 2016. The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation was the organiser of the sports event. The partners of the marathon race were Zhelezo FM radio and the Centre for Youth.

The event was held with the aim of promoting sports and healthy lifestyles, including among children and youth, as well as drawing attention to running as one of the most accessible and effective physical activities.

About 1,500 citizens from Zheleznogorsk of all ages participated in the race, which spanned 1,800m from Mikhailovsky GOK Centre of Culture and Technology to the Rus’ Cinema.

Special guests invited to the festival included Igor Aramovich Ter-Ovanesyan, the Soviet athlete, multiple world record holder in the long jump, as well as a five-time Olympian; Ekaterina Volkova, the Russian athlete, winner of the World Championship in Japan, and the bronze medalist of the Beijing Games; as well as Max Orlov, the presenter of Russian Radio, voice of Spartak-Moscow (FCSM) football club, and a member of the Best Moscow Presenters Club.

“At a young age, I also participated in a similar event. That day I felt that the fire of sports sparked inside of me. Today, I wish that the same fire is sparked in the hearts of every one of you, and maybe someone will carry it to the Olympic stadiums,” said Ekaterina Volkova in her concluding words.

Taras Stanin, the Russian beatbox champion, the youth dance group Fresh, and the musical group Express participated in the musical program of the event.

At the end of the festival, the winners were awarded commemorative prizes and gifts. The best participants of the race were recognized in the following nominations: “Up to Seven Years”, “From Seven to Ten Years”, “Example to Follow”, “The Most United Family”, “The Most Energetic Person”, “The Most Cheerful Person,” and “The Best Sport Motto.”

The main winners and awardees of #VSENASPORT, the first mass race in Zheleznogorsk, were Ruslan Anikin, Denis Ermakov, and Sergey Sedykh.

The Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation has actively supported the development of sports in the Kursk region. The #VSENASPORT festival is the first city-wide sporting event of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation in Zheleznogorsk.
