Construction of new sports complex and renovation of school canteen completed at the Lipetsk Residential School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Children

04 September 2013

On September 2, 2013, the new facilities at the Lipetsk Residential School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Children were unveiled — a sports complex and a renovated canteen. The construction of a new building and reconstruction of the existing one was made possible thanks to the support of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation.

The construction for the Residential School of a pool, sports hall and gym for fitness classes, a winter garden and social amenities was completed in record time.

Director of the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation Maria Krasnikova commented: “The Lipetsk Residential School joined our Assistance Programme for Children’s Social Services Institutions in the spring of 2013. The result of our collaboration has been the ongoing implementation of a series of extremely important projects for this institution. The construction of a modern sports complex and the renovation of the dining facilities have now been completed. This is just the beginning of our partnership. Further rewarding cooperation lies ahead! We strive to turn every institution that we include in our Assistance Programme into somewhere exceptional”.

In parallel with the construction, the Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation set up the “Summer of Fun” project. Pupils from the Residential School were given various sporting gear for summer recreation. The renovated canteen received new crockery and cutlery. Also, with the support of the Foundation, the swimming pool of Lipetsk Residential School was equipped with a special electrolift for children with musculoskeletal disorders. This is the first pool in Lipetsk with such equipment. In 2014, Lipetsk Residential School will join the online training programme developed by the Foundation to help the social adjustment of children brought up at residential schools and children’s homes.

The first day of the new school year at Lipetsk Residential School was cheerful and noisy. For the opening of each new facility — pool, gym and canteen — the residential school pupils rehearsed mini-performances and sketches. At the pool they showed their synchronized swimming skills, in the gym the School’s dance group gave a performance and in the canteen it was the children’s folk music ensemble. The first day was also marked by a surprise for the pupils — the Foundation invited the popular Russian artist, Yuri Titov, to come and play a concert at the school.
